Spinal Decompression

Is Spinal Decompression Right for You?

When you have an injured disc, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, or any other issue that affects your nerves or nerves in your back, then spinal decompression may be the best treatment for you.  Pain relievers provide temporary relief and may cause complications over time.  Surgery, for back or neck issues, has risks.  That is why Dr. Diane Taber and Dr. Ted Taber of Taber Chiropractic & Laser Spine Center in Bowie are committed to providing you with the quality care you need for full, non-invasive relief from your neck or back pain with spinal decompression.

What Is Spinal Decompression?

Spinal decompression is performed by our chiropractors as a non-surgical procedure. It consists of having you lay on a specialized table. You will be connected to a machine that will gently decompress the disc and spinal nerves. The machine regulates the level of tension you receive to implement the precise decompression needed for your spine.

How Spinal Decompression Helps Your Discs

The discs in your spine are circular cushions of cartilage filled with gel that keeps your vertebrae from rubbing against one another and provides mobility between the bones of your spine.   It is not uncommon for trauma to cause a disc injury. Occasionally, a disc will degenerate and shrink making the vertebrae come in direct contact with each other. It is also possible for discs to protrude, bulge, or herniate causing them to irritate or pinch spinal nerves.

The gentle pumping of the disc and joints with spinal decompression is sometimes more effective than chiropractic adjustments alone, especially in the more challenging spine cases.  We will use spinal decompression to alleviate spine pain, radiating arm pain, and radiating leg pain.  This can be used as part of a treatment plan to avoid surgery.  In certain cases we will combine with MLS Laser.  As a result, the nerve pain and joint pain will lessen - often permanently.

Degenerative spinal conditions including disc degeneration, spondylosis, spinal canal stenosis often benefit from spinal decompression as well.  Often patients will do spinal decompression with the chiropractic, every so often, to maintain optimal function, flexibility, and quality of life.

Our chiropractic will evaluate your condition to see if spinal decompression is indicated.  If so, we will do a test session, at no charge, to see how you respond to spinal decompression.  Then you can decide if it’s of  value and if you want to continue additional treatment.  Often, patients will feel significant relief after just one session.   Our methods will not only help you with your current pain but will also prevent pain in the future.  Make your appointment with Taber Chiropractic & Laser Spine Therapy Center in Bowie online or by calling us at (301) 352-4500. Find out how we can help you get back to pain-free living.
